J. Joseph Rossi joins Drew, Cooper & Anding after eight years with the United States Attorney’s Office in Grand Rapids, where he served as the Civil Health Care Fraud Coordinator, as well as the “ACE” Coordinator, directing Affirmative Civil Enforcement.
At the United States Attorney’s office, Joe evaluated every Qui Tam (also known as the False Claims Act) case filed in the Western District of Michigan. He has extensive experience in Health Care Fraud, including medical billing and pharmaceutical claims, as well as other financial fraud. Joe established strong lines of communication with colleagues at the Department of Justice and the Michigan Attorney General’s Office. Joe’s repertoire also includes Defense Contracting. Serving as an officer in the United States Marine Corp Reserve, he was called to active duty twice in support of the Global War on Terrorism, and has a personal interest in claims impacting our troops and our Nation’s safety.
Joe joins Drew, Cooper & Anding to build the area’s first practice focused on the representation of Whistleblowers reporting fraud against the federal or state government. The False Claims Act rewards private citizens who sue to recover taxpayers’ money taken through fraud. Joe’s unique experience with the federal government, both as an Assistant U.S. Attorney and a military officer, provides unequaled insight into this area of the law.
